ACTION ALERT

A few days ago Andrea sent out an important email from the Stop Family Violence programs to let us all know that in 2009 the Bush Administration has proposed horrifying cuts to funding for domestic and sexual violence programs and services.

The alert states that "President Bush’s 2009 budget proposal, released Feb. 4, proposes a devastating $120 million cut in Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) funds, caps Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) funding at the lowest level in 6 years, does not provide any increases for Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (shelter) funding, and ELIMINATES the $2 billion in the VOCA reserve".

This is really enraging to me, and if you can make the time to do some e-activism or make a call to our legislators please make the choice to do so soon. Follow this link to get more information and to get in touch with representatives Earl Blumenauer, Gordon Smith, and Ron Wyden. http://capwiz.com/sfvo/callalert/index.tt?action=results&ca_type=callalert&alertid=10942181&content_dir=&external_id=&zip=97212

If you'd like to come to my house on Wednesday night at 7 pm, some of us will be getting together to make the calls and write letters that evening. I'll order a pizza and you can meet our cats Cap'n and Mango.

In light of posting my contact information on a public blog go ahead and get in touch with me via email at ledena@pwcl.org or ledenamarie@riseup.net.

Count me in. I invited MAR, too!

Want me to pitch in for pizza? I can bring cookies! Writing representatives is best fueled by pizza and cookies.
