Oppression Intersection

For a beautiful, thought-provoking read on transgendered folk (re)experiencing racism after transitioning, check out "Becoming a Black Man" over at the ever awesome Colorlines. The author, Daisy Hernandez, manages to be informative, write a beautiful piece and be sensitive to the experiences of the trans community, a combination that is unfortunately all too rare.

This was a really good read.

As a middle class white person, I always find myself surprised to hear about racial oppression even though it obviously happens on a regular basis. I was recently pulled over for speeding and I had anxiety running through my body the entire time. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a world where you are constantly on guard knowing that things like being pulled over are going to be a daily occurence simply because of the color of your skin.

I also really appreciate that she gave some background on the trans community and was sensitive to their history and experiences.

Thanks for posting this, Katie!
