Yet another pioneering feminist wholly and thoroughly disappoints me.
Geraldine Ferraro says Obama is "lucky" to be a black man
One of my favorite bloggers responds here (FYI - she used lots of curse words!)
You'll notice that Geraldine panders to women of color but she is really just talking about a black man versus a white woman. Who has it rougher out there? sigh. sigh. sigh.
Let's not pretend this was a slip of the tongue. In 1988, she said that " if Jesse Jackson were not black, he would not be in the race."
Could we mandate some kind of nation-wide oppression training, maybe? I wish that Hillary's camp would start talking about their own culpability and their own privilege. Maybe they could recognize that just 150 years ago, black men and women alike were OWNED by whites. So what if they want to vote for Barack? Suck it up, ladies.
Unpack your invisible knapsack, Geraldine. It's hard work but we all have to do it.

'Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?'...
Except for the little fact that it doesn't work in two different directions. I think Geraldine needs to go back to Intro to Women's Studies. White people still hold institutional power over people of color and therefore we can be racist. Mean comments, hateful attitudes do exist, but it isn't racism if you aren't holding the power. Same for sexism.
This seems ridiculous to even need to type out...
Geraldine stepped down today.
Big. Surprise.
or not.
