Today the Multnomah County Board of County Commissioners declared April National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and honored the work of OHSU's Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program. The County Commissioners were impressed with the collaborative approach of the Sexual Assault Response Team, which PWCL has been a member of since 2002.
Here's a picture of Gresham Police Chief Piluso, Portland Police Sgt Geiger, District Attorney Michael Schrunk, and the Victim's Assistance Program Coordinator Helen O'Brien talking about the work of the SART:

Yay!!! I'm so glad you all were there.
I was very glad to be present for the proclamation today. In my time at PWCL (now approaching 3 years, which I'm proud to say) I have felt like sending a Thank you card to various SANE nurses for the caring way that they work with survivors during that traumatic and immediate time post assault. It was also a validating experience to hear our city commissioners ask questions about the number of unreported sexual assaults as well as the collaboration between very different agencies and systems.
Our advocates are raaaaad.
And so serious in the photo!
