Well, she's right on the name anyway. I'm not going stick my shoe any further in my mouth with discussions of global politics.
So, despite my quick jump to assuming she was wrong (assumptions are mostly always bad, I know!) I did learn a lot from investigating after I made this post. Next time, the investigating will happen prior to posting, I promise.
So in place of Mrs. Bush's twang, here is another video for you:

Okay, I stopped counting after 10.
I was just gonna say that I heard 11 before I got so tired of her twang that I had to shut it off.
How is calling Myanmar "Burma" oppressive? The country's English name was changed in 1998 by the military government as a way to incite nationalistic sentiment in order to deflect criticisms from democratic movements, but Burma's democratic activists including Aung San Suu Kyi refuse to accept the change.
The "mainstream media" you apparently despise went along with the military government's decision to change the country's English name, as did all foreign governments that recognize the military government's legitimacy. But many progressive and independent media around the world continue to call the country "Burma" in deference to Aung San Suu Kyi and her allies.
i stand corrected, emigirl. i'll be sure to do my research next time time.
thanks for the information though. obviously i make assumptions when i hear conservatives using one term and even the mainstream media using another.
i really just wanted to trash talk Laura Bush.
